Brabanthallen 's-Hertogenbosch equipped with 5,000 solar panels
Event complex Brabanthallen 's-Hertogenbosch was recently equipped with 5,000 solar panels on the roof, which means that the building now provides more energy than it consumes. This is a logical development for the Brabanthallen in their moves toward sustainability.
Sustainability is of paramount importance at Brabanthallen 's-Hertogenbosch. As one of the largest event complexes in the Netherlands, we therefore like to choose environmentally friendly solutions. The roof is now equipped with 5,000 solar panels, allowing the complex to supply more energy than it consumes. In one year, the panels supply approximately 1,600,000 kWh, which corresponds to the consumption of 586 households at an average electricity consumption per household of 2,730 kWh/year (see www.nibud.nl).
Combined project
This is a combined project for solar installation (pv panels) and roof renovation. First, the roof was fitted with white roofing and the roofs were post/added insulation. The white roofing reduces heating from the roof in the halls. With additional insulation, warming through the roof in summer and heat loss from the halls in winter is reduced. Next, 5,000 so-called amorphous, also called flexible solar panels, were installed using a lightweight adhesive system. A beautiful solution for a lightweight construction. The panels weigh only 4 kg/m2, so little weight has been added to the roofs so that sufficient weight can still be hung in the roof structures for the events in the Brabanthallen.
Sustainability
An important consideration when purchasing solar panels is, of course, sustainability. Solar energy is a source of green, renewable energy. Solar panels significantly reduce CO2 emissions. In addition, using solar panels offers financial benefits, which is no luxury with current energy prices. The output of the 5,000 solar panels is approximately 1.6 million kilowatt hours per year. Brabanthallen's own power consumption is variable. This can be more than 100% of the solar system's output at one moment and sometimes hardly any power is used.
Sustainability is becoming increasingly important for companies. Previously, Brabanthallen 's-Hertogenbosch had already switched to LED lighting, which has a longer lifespan and quickly uses up to 90% less energy than other lighting. In addition, the LED lighting at Brabanthallen is linked to motion sensors so they are not constantly on. In the course of this year, Brabanthallen will expand the parking area, with a section also earmarked for charging stations. This will allow event visitors, as well as residents from the surrounding area, to charge their electric cars there.
